What Is So Important About Having a Stable Attic?

Imagine having an incredible space created for your storage needs. You go to your new attic and suddenly there is a loose panel, and you fall right through, and you take a trip to the ER! How did this happen? Why was my attic not secure? Why did I not have a stable attic?

How Can I Create a Stable Attic?

The first question you need to ask yourself before introducing yourself to many attic options is, ‘How strong is my attic?’. Our StoreFloor team can help you answer this question through their expert knowledge. They will take into consideration any loading and form a lattice-beam structure. In other words, this is like placing timber across the entirety of the attic. However, we use the lighter version of that so it’s less weighted.

The attic must also be strong enough for a person(s) to freely manoeuvre across the floor. This has been introduced as a new regulation in 2015, also known as CDM – so please also consider this.

Our LoftZone StoreFloor raised Loft Boarding system has been designed to create a safe storage area in your attic. StoreFloor can hold just over an impressive 1100lbs due to its Tri- and Uni- supports made from strong engineering grade recycled plastic. This makes it stronger than the joists of a typical attic.

Insulation and Ventilation

Our parts are designed to be extremely durable and strong. You have the option to choose your desired materials and boards which are best suited to you. The cross beams span over 3 or 4 joists, and they also have easy sliding adjustments in case they aren’t correctly spaced.

The reason it is important to consider your ventilation is to allow airflow to pass through the insulation. This prevents any moisture build-up.

Create a Stable Loft with LoftZone

StoreFloor is only intended for storage use! We recommend that you do not overwhelm the joists otherwise cracks could form, resulting in a trip to the ER … It is rare that the entire joist or floorboard will snap but, just be aware of how much weight you are thinking of placing in your attic.

How will our StoreFloor Loft boarding system improve access to your attic? For more advice on attic boards, refer to another one of our blogs, ‘Which Attic Boards Should I Use?’.

All houses are different! It is your responsibility to load your deck sensibly. If in doubt, please consult a structural engineer.

If you have any questions or are unsure where your property falls within our standards, then feel free to contact us anytime! We are always happy to advise you.
